Heart Runs Dry

I’ve given you everything I had

All I’d stored up inside

Threw every word off my tongue

To an empty, careless sky

I poured out my soul

Into a bottomless well,

Trade pennies for my thoughts

And the secrets that I tell

And it all feels like

This train’s running off the tracks

I’m watching thunderclouds collide

The moon and the sun cross paths

And I can’t control the tides

I’m thirsting for your love

While the hunger in you dies

I’m here sitting with the silence,

As my heart runs dry

All the lonely 2 am’s

And the losing track of time

the phone that never rings

And the words refuse to rhyme

All the talks with my mother

About where I go from here

And she’s running out answers,

And I’m running out of years

This train’s running off the tracks

I’m watching thunderclouds collide

The moon and the sun cross paths

And I can’t control the tides

I’m thirsting for your love

While the hunger in you dies

I’m here sitting with the silence,

As my heart runs dry
